Food Bank Donations are VERY LIGHT! Please donate this weekend!

E-mail sent by Webmaster Webmaster - Master Account, Friday, November 18th, 2016 @ 11:07am

Hello Paddock Farms Neighbors,

As we head into the final days of our food bank donation drive we want to report that collections are very light. We have just 3 bags of donations collected compared to the 80 bags we collected last year. Please donate to our cause this year if you can! We understand there are many charities and organizations asking for donations (especially this time of year), however it’s surprising to see this much of a decline for our own efforts. Our donations go to the Hope Food Bank located at the Hope United Methodist Church on Steel Road in Havertown. They open their doors just once a month to hungry families and individuals right here in town. All are welcome. Many factors lead folks to reach out to food banks for assistance—continuing financial challenges, unexpected job loss or illness can contribute to their need. Betty Druce (610-637-3857 or druceb@comcast.net) offers up her home as the collection point for our food drive.

DROP OFF ALL THIS WEEKEND!
Friday, Saturday, Sunday
128 Charles Drive, Havertown
*you can knock or leave your donation by the garage door

What is needed?

Items urgently needed: paper towels, bathroom tissue, toothbrushes w/ caps, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, laundry and dishwashing detergent, coffee, juices, jelly, condiments, canned chicken, potatoes, fruit, chili, canned pasta meals, canned soups.

Low supply items: pancake syrup, baked beans, canned soups (no tomato), cereal (no oatmeal), pasta sauces, pasta (not spaghetti), rice, mac and cheese. Cash donations are also accepted. No glass when possible.

Thank you for your support!!!

All the best,
PFCA

Hello Paddock Farms Neighbors,

Our last print newsletter for 2016 is hot off the press and it will be getting in the hands of block captains--and ultimately your hands--in the coming days. There are several blocks that may not receive a newsletter without volunteer help. As of today, we need coverage for Ellis 302-417, Golf View, Robin, Paddock 200/300s, Grasslyn and Decatur 0-61. If you can help in just this instance or if you’d like to serve as block captain, please email paddockfarms@gmail.com and we’ll get the newsletters in your hands. Thanks in advance!

THANK YOU! Oktoberfest was a great success and the donut eating contest provided some especially awesome moments. We’re certain that feature is here to stay. Much thanks to Krispy Kreme for the donut donation and to our volunteers that helped hand out treats, setup and cleanup!

Thank you Betty! Please contact her (610-637-3857 or druceb@comcast.net) to arrange a drop off. We're excited to see how much we can collect! Thanks for your continued support of our charity work!

Bring your chair or blanket and gather on the tennis court just before dusk in Paddock Park for this annual event. Snacks and beverages will be available for purchase. Much thanks to Nolan Painting, who will be giving away free popcorn! Please let us know if you can volunteer some time at the snack table. It will be set up in the rear of the tennis courts. We look forward to seeing you there!

Friends of Daniel Cooper Team for Parkway Run and Walk, Sunday September 25th: Support and celebrate Paddock Farms resident Daniel Cooper’s 11 years of being cancer free. Oktoberfest—Save the Date: Sunday, October 30th from 3-5pm in Paddock Park. Food, fun and music! If you are a homebrewer and wish to offer tastings, please email us at paddockfarms@gmail.com. Volunteers and ideas are needed! The Eagles are scheduled to play in Dallas at 8:30pm, so there’s no reason to miss this year!

Gift from Kelly Music for Life: Our friends at Kelly Music for Life, hosts of the Park Summer Concert Series, Haverford Music Fest and Spring Fest, donated $100 to our Park Improvement Fund as they had a surplus at the end of the Summer Concert Series. We’ve raised over $750 this season for the fund. The Park Improvement Committee will be regrouping shortly to narrow down a list of initiatives. Send us an email if you are interested in joining the committee.

Neighborhood Alert: Suspicious activity was reported in the Paddock Farms Neighborhood on Monday 9/12. The Havertown Community Page on Facebook reported two attempted break-ins in the Lynnewood Section (area between Lawrence Road and Manoa Shopping Center). The resulting conversation brought attention to a suspicious man riding a bike throughout the Paddock Farms Neighborhood at both 11:15am and 4:30pm. The individual was reportedly riding slowly and looking up driveways and now appears to be a person of interest by Haverford Township Police Department in connection with an attempted break-in at Grasslyn and Colfax. All of this highlights the need to report suspicious activity. If you see something, say something. Please call 911 to report and The HTPD will be notified. Always be sure to lock your house and car and close your garage door.

Email us at paddockfarms@gmail.com with your questions, feedback and ideas.

>>Paddock Park Improvement Committee Update: The committee met with the Township Park Maintenance Supervisor as a means to address concerns, issues and questions regarding Paddock Park. Some of the asks included:

  1. Electricity/and or lighting in the pavilion

  2. Grading the uneven area by the pavilion

  3. Repairing/repainting play equipment

  4. Removing the border around toddler play area

  5. Removing the concrete in the ground (from the old pool) near the toddler area

  6. Grading-soil/turf replacement in the area near the picnic tables; possibly relocating tables

  7. Connecting the path behind single slide

To date they have completed or have in progress:

  1. Tree trimming but no removal

  2. Some dirt around the pavilion and near the area with the picnic tables but it does not look nearly complete

  3. Half of the border (holding the mulch in) around the toddler area is gone

  4. They have removed one piece of equipment (the boat) ostensibly to repair it

  5. In process of filling in dirt around the footing of the play equipment and filled in some holes; some concrete footing will be replaced/repaired

As a precursor to major improvements that will be guided by the committee, we asked that the community as a whole help eliminate the inappropriate use of Paddock Park--including gathering after dusk, vandalism and alcohol and drug use. Two arrests were made last Tuesday at 6:30pm for suspected illegal drug use/possession. As shocking as this can be, it is a step in the right direction to not only improve the park and neighborhood, but will hopefully positively impact the lives of those involved and the community as a whole. Please continue to report this sort of activity by calling 911 to be connected to Haverford Township Police Department.

As always, email paddockfarms@gmail.com with your ideas, comments or questions.

+++++ IMPORTANT NEIGHBORHOOD MESSAGE +++++

TAKE BACK OUR PARK! We need to change the tone for a moment and bring your attention to a persistent problem in Paddock Park. Confirmed by many residents that live on the perimeter, Paddock Park is a hub of after dusk activities that result in vandalism not only in the park, but to properties in the vicinity of the park. Visitors to the park on the weekend are exposed to the aftermath of these destructive gatherings. Vandalism is not the only crime--evidence of underage drinking and drug use is present. While the newly formed Paddock Park Improvement Committee briefly discussed this in their first organizational meeting, the problem supersedes any “improvements.” We must take back our park. While notifying the Haverford Township Police will likely increase patrols, we are asking residents to follow the mantra heard other places--IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING. THIS MEANS CALL 911. 911 is the way to get HTPD to respond to or investigate a recent or in-progress incident. 911 is not just for emergencies, it is for the reporting of illegal, destructive behavior that needs to be reported to the HTPD. We need a formal record of the incidents. You may also choose to call the HTPD Anonymous Tip Line at 610-853-9213. As always, Paddock Park is closed from dusk until dawn. Please share this message with your friends, neighbors and anyone with kids that may hangout in the park or know someone that does. This behavior will not be tolerated and the police will be encouraged to do what is within their means. Thank you for your attention, support and action given to this issue.

As always, please email us at paddockfarms@gmail.com with questions, comment or ideas.

All the best,
PFCA Board
